Lobsterpalooza 2012

It's that time of the SANE calendar where we gather together up north to give our thanks to the Great Clawed Ones, which we traditionally observe by consuming a representative sampling. This year we'll celebrate the 147th consecutive year we've celebrated together (not counting WWII, WWI, The Spanish American War a few of the Civil War years, and 1942, when we just plumb forgot. This year, we're holding Lobsterpalooza on Saturday, July 28, from 12ish to eveningish.

Like we've done every year, please email me with:
1) Are you attending?
If the answer is no, go straight to #6, below. We'll be sad you're not here, but that won't stop us from chatting about you, so let that be a little gentle pressure to come, if only to defend youself.
If your answer is yes (Yay!), please continue...
2) How many attendees in your party
3) How many lobsters your party wants to eat. There will be a charge per lobster, but the amount isn't fixed yet. It's cost.
4) How many servings of clamsters your party wants to gobble up.
5) What else you would like to bring, to complement lobsters, clams and granite.
6) Write a slogan for somebody you'd actually vote for for president (of something). The best slogan will be published in the Atlantic Monthly's Slogans and Other Election Hoopla issue.
Please send your replies to me, and when I get everyone's answer, I'll tabulate them and send the results along to Bootsy, and she can order the tables & chairs, order the clamsters, and handcraft all the traditioal lobster vests, Bermuda shorts, bow-ties and ski-masks. Oh yeah, order the lobsters, too. I almost forgot. Wow, if we forgot to order the lobsters, that would mean 1887 all over again!

So respond early & often, and we'll see y'all (all who are coming, anyway) on Saturday, July 28

SANE meeting Tues 19 June - Tunnel Books

SANEsters,
Just a quick memory-jogger, and I'll get more info ASAP. We're making
tunnel books, so bring, I guess, bunches of tunnels and books, and
we'll glue them together. Okay, that was just a guess. More info as I
make it up.

Next SANE meeting Tues 19 June 2012

SANEsters,

A quick note about last meeting -- toilet paper roll figures are
harder than they look, but oh so satisfying when you get one to work
out right. To wit, check out Batty's Patriots Mascot fella:

SANE Meeting Tues 22 May 2012

This month's meeting will be held at the House of Pam (A) (thanks, Pam!), this coming Tuesday. The project will be convert innocent, plain little toilet paper rolls into expressive and colorful little figures, Crom willing.

What to bring:
1) Well, toilet paper rolls, for a start (duh!). Even paper towel rolls would work, with a greater level of difficulty. Since the last email, I've collected a shoebox full, so may have spares. Perhaps I'll build a chess set, hmm.

2) I suspect a few tools might be handy. It might be useful to have an X-acto knife or suchlike, to facilitate some difficult folds. Also, some implements that you can insert into the tube to help make a mountain fold (if origami were projected upon cylindrical geometry): sturdy chop sticks, a butter knife, even a spoon (long-handled spoon?) might be useful to help push out a crisp curved fold. Even shallow molds might be useful (say, two same-sized 1/4-tsp measures, that you could use inside and outside the tube, squishing the cardboard into shallow depressions or bulges.

3) Some type of coloration. See the blog entry for April 25. Click on the smaller images to get bigger ones. Dryish media like craons, chalk or charcoal -- even paste shoe polish, -- might work, as would stamp pads to rub the figures against, but gouache or paint should work, also.

4) Huge bunches of imagination. Or small bunches. Whatever you have handy, really. Since the last email, I've collected a thimble full, but I keep spilling. Perhaps I'll build a small squat Acropolis.
In our copulous free time, we'll chat about LobstaWorld (tenatively planned for Satday 28 July), the nature of life, and starting our own automat downtown. And figure out our June meeting time, and what to do. You know, the usual!

See y'all thar,
