Deliverance! The Sequel

Ms. Mary has made the drop, and files this report:
Delivered the materials to VA and they sent a thank you note with donation am't at $300 which we can divide for 2008 tax purposes. I'll make copies and bring to next meeting
We're two for two, and I have warm, fuzzy feelings all over. No, wait, that might be hives.
At those rates, my office supplies upstairs may be worth more than I am (currently estimated in the mid-hundreds)! And, when taking your 2008 deduction, don't forget to add in all the mileages to and from Pam's house, then subtract the value of the food you ate at the meeting. That leaves me about even, I reckon!
A reminder, from in the previous e-mail:
Next Meeting: Tuesday, 18 March 2008, 7ish.
Project: Carving: Self-Portrait and/or Animals.

Hey kids! Can you count the "you"s in this section (be sure to include the "you"s in this question (and parenthetical(s)))?
Here's one way to deflect unwelcome criticism: if people don't recognize the portrait you made of you, you can always claim it's really supposed to be your pet toad or ferret! Or, if you can vaguely discern a crown, you can say it's a picture of the Sea Monkeys you had as a kid.

Answer: the total number of "you"s (not counting that one) is 329.6.
Did you get it right? Good boy/girl/other!

SANE Meeting Notes

A good thing was done by all last meeting: a lot of work got done, a lot of stuff got dragged out of dusty closets and musty drawers and stuffed into boxes and shipped out to parts barely known.

Betsey reports that General Mayhem at the Salvation Army was tickled pink at the receipt of the card packets and spare parts, and BW got the impression that our efforts were appreciated and would be used. I'll keep y'all posted as news from Mary and the VA dribble in, but I'm confident that our hard work will be greeted with the same level of enthusiasm and appreciation. A win-win-win all around, I betcha.

The Next Meeting will be on Tuesday. That's it, just Tuesday.
No, wait, there's more!

Next Meeting: Tuesday, 18 March 2008, 7ish.
Project: Carving: Self-Portrait and/or Animals. Really talented
carvers should roll these two themes into one, somehow. A portrait of you with an animal or as an animal, an animal that looks rather like you, an interpretation of you with goat ears or a cow tail or moose antlers, or all four (I'm counting the ears as two things). Them what don't wanna carve are on your own, and must bring an optional do-it-yourself project, and should be prepared to present it to the group in song, in rhyme, or with hula-like hand gestures. (Unless that would discourage you from coming to the meeting, which would be unfortunate, and wrong.) It just seemed like some penalty/dare should be attached for being different from the rest of us "normal" folk making pictures of themselves with animal body parts. Kinda makes you think.

Well, I'm typing and I can't stop my fingers!

Supplies, meeting at Pam A's

Did I mention that the meeting is at Pam A's? Well, it is. Thanks, Pam!

I don't know for absolutely sure, but I have seen signs of Girl Scout cookies in the world recently, so it's entirely possible that Megan will have the cookies several of us ordered at the last meeting. So remember to bring cash moneys (?$4 per box, I dimly remember?) to consummate the deal. FYI: it's not really made from Girl Scouts, they just sell them.

-------------
Salvation Army - 20 5-card packets:

Between Pam A and Leslie, it appears we have a lot of crayons (at least a brand-new four-pack for each of the packets), and Leslie has enough paper and envelopes for the SA packets.

Leslie reports: "I will be on the hook for the plastic ziplock bags.
I bought a bunch of foam flowers @ Target so kids can affix (martha stewart language) or stick them to their cards.  Pam A., just wanted to let you know so you would not have to crank out the flowers.  (We were talking about adding stuff for Mother's Day cards in the Salvation Army packets.)"

Mary is bringing: "paper, blank books, canvas paper, some fabric, glass beads and anything else I can clean out of my closet. I'll also bring a roto-trimmer to cut down whatever needs cutting down."

I presume between the rest of us we can come up with colored/construction paper, in sufficient quantities to embellish these cards. Images, preprinted or stamped (at the meeting or before) with ?birthday-appropriate (and/or Mama Day) imagery is good, too.

? How about glue-on or stick-on gew-gaws and doo-dads?
If we're including paper and other items to add to the cards, do we need glue sticks? Anybody know about smallish packets or sticks of glue to include?

Richard will be working on a brief and not-very-specific "how-to" - if you have thoughts/suggestions, lemme know.

------------
Veterans Administration -  collections of art supplies

We have "a lot" more 4-packs of crayons, as well as various assorted crayons/colored pencils, per Leslie and Pam A. I presume that as we all clean out our various hovels and uncover our piles, we'll be able to amass some fairly impressive quantities of surplus stuff.

What about boxes? If you're bringing stuff, consider carrying them inside boxes - at the meeting we can empty the boxes of randomly assorted stuff and reassemble (resize if necessary) like things into the same box, and it will look nearly almost organized kinda. I presume all kinds/sizes of boxes are appropriate, up to "case of paper" size (TV/monitor/computer size might be too large??) Smaller boxes for collections of smaller things?

See you all at the meeting!

Richard

SANE Meeting 12 Feb 2008

Update!
Mary clarifies (and adds another possible client):
The VA doesn't have to have individual packages. Though they would accept them.

Just to add insanity to the project, Rosie's Place said they'd take any art stuff we have including fabric scraps and they don't have to be individually packaged but if that's our thing it would be okay. And if we don't have enough stuff for them, they'll wait for another time if we ever do this again.
